[emusic club] september 2010: matthew dear, max richter, scuba, sufjan stevens
August 31, 2010
eMusic remains the web’s finest treasure trove of alternative, independent music – at least for those prepared to pay for their fix (for moral if not economic reasons). While its US service took a lot of flak for bringing on major labels, in doing so hiking prices, here in the UK (which, like everything else, has always been somewhat more expensive than its American equivalent) it continues to plough its distinctly indie furrow quite nicely, thank you. At least for now.
This new post series – called eMusic Club, though it’s not really a club – fulfils two purposes: first, as a way to bring much-needed album reviews on to close to 94; second, to encourage me – and maybe some of you – to occasionally dig a little deeper in eMusic’s digital crates for some lesser known gems, new or old. Suggestions are always welcome.
eMusic Club will review one album from the eMusic catalogue more or less every week and, like eMusic’s subscription model, the selection will refresh every month. Links to reviews will be added as they are posted.
September’s foursome comprises new releases from acknowledged perfectionists in their respective musical fields:
Total tracks/eMusic credits for September: 44. Enjoy.
